9 Reasons Why You Should Be Having LOUD Sex

SHUTTERSTOCK
Your roommates might not feel the same way, but loud sex is pretty freaking great. Just ask Caroline Cartwright, the English woman who was arrested (twice!) for being so loud in the bedroom that the cops had to be called. Yes, that is a true story and, frankly, one that might make you rethink the current caliber of your sexual activities. Think you might want to get a little louder? Here are nine reasons why that's an excellent idea:
1. Your neighbors will finally know your name. You never got around to meeting so-and-so in the apartment next door. Well, at least now they heard your name being yelled several times last night. Also, maybe now they won't invite you to the building potluck that you really don't want to go to anyway.

2. It helps you communicate better naked. It's not always fun to stop what you're doing and explain to your partner that the crazy tongue thing he just did was amazing and definitely keep doing it over and over always. This is where getting loud can really work in your favor. "Being loud in bed, moaning, it's first and foremost to signal to your partner where you are," says sex therapist Ian Kerner, Ph.D., author of She Comes First. By turning up the volume, you're telling them that whatever they're doing is working.
3. It lets everyone know there are zero judgments here. "Some people are very quiet in bed and feel that they're inhibiting the noise they want to make," says Kerner. But throwing all that out with your clothes is a way of telling yourself and your partner that you're just free to enjoy yourselves. "Certainly moaning, being loud, talking dirty, shouting dirty, those can all be ways of shedding your inhibitions, relaxing, and letting out stress."

4. You'll breathe easier. Talking and moaning (and screaming) during sex can actually facilitate your breathing, says Kerner, which is really important for both arousal and relaxation.
5. It might help your partner orgasm. An interesting study in theArchives of Sexual Behavior found that women actually made more noise right before and during their partner's orgasm—not their own. The researchers weren't exactly sure why, but they suggest that we might do this to help our partners along. Aw, we're so sweet.
6. Your roommate will never accidentally walk in on you. All of that moaning and bed rocking acts as an audible Do Not Disturb sign. And if they can hear that, chances are they won't barge in asking if you borrowed their straightener.

7. It can create a kinky fantasy. "For some people, it's exhibitionistic—there's the thrill of getting caught or letting others know you're having sex," says Kerner. So if you've fantasized about dabbling in exhibitionism but don't actually want to hit up a sex club, think of this as a happy compromise.
8. You'll feel like you're starring in a hot sex scene. Have you ever noticed that couples on screen moan and groan a whole lot more than you typically do? It might seem unrealistic, but there's also nothing stopping you from getting loud IRL, either. So channel your inner porn star and go for it.
9. Because it's a simple, free, surefire way to turn someone on.By cranking up the volume—and maybe the brazenness of your dirty talk—you can bring in some excitement and novelty without really changing anything else about your sex life. Unbridled enthusiasm beats fancy lingerie any day, we promise.
